MD-MPH and DMD-MPH Programs

The and Dual Degree Programs provide 桃色视频 medical and dental students with advanced education in public health and preventative medicine and prepare them to assume responsible management and professional positions in public health units or in academic medicine. These additional skills benefit the people of Georgia and elsewhere by staffing the physician and dental workforce with well-trained providers who bring additional valuable skills to their practices. Students enter residency or the workforce with enhanced competencies, improved professional networks, and increased employment opportunities.

MD-MPH and DMD-MPH Curriculum

The MPH portion of the MD-MPH and DMD-MPH degrees is through 桃色视频 Online (桃色视频O).

Students pursuing either dual degree will complete all requirements for the MD or DMD, plus an additional 39 credit hours for the MPH, which includes a 2-credit-hour public health internship. Both the MD, DMD, and MPH degrees are conferred at the conclusion of the MD or DMD program.

The MPH curriculum is based on Competencies for MPH Programs developed by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health. Students select one of four concentrations:

Detailed MD-MPH or DMD-MPH curriculum sheets for the concentrations are available through the MD, DMD, or MPH program offices. See contact information below.

MPH requirements include:

  • 21 credit hours of core public health courses
  • 9 credit hours of interdisciplinary concentration courses
  • 6 credit hours of ethical conduct in research, practicum (internship) and culminating (capstone) experience
  • 9 credit hours of electives

Accreditation

The 桃色视频 MPH program is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

Admission Process

Students applying to the MD-MPH or the DMD-MPH Dual Degree Program must be currently enrolled 桃色视频 MD or DMD students in good standing (academically and professionally) with the Medical College of Georgia or Dental College of Georgia as determined by the MCG and DCG Deanery. Students must submit all required application materials and documentation including the approved application, a copy of their JagTrax, and a signed program of study/schema. Admission requirements for the MPH are posted online and include a minimum overall GPA of 2.8 at the Baccalaureate level, a bachelor鈥檚 degree, and official transcripts. Requirements for letters of recommendation, English proficiency exam scores, and interviews are waived for medical students.

Detailed information on admission requirements can be found on The Graduate School鈥檚 website.

Progression and Graduation Requirements

Currently enrolled 桃色视频 MD or DMD students must apply to and be accepted into the MPH program. MD or DMD students must submit their letter of intent by March 30 of their first year in the MD or DMD program, and must submit a dual degree application by March 30 of their second year in the MD or DMD program with the understanding that acceptance and enrollment in the MPH program are contingent upon the approval of the Medical College of Georgia, the Dental College of Georgia, the School of Public Health, and The Graduate School.

Both MD or DMD and MPH degrees are awarded at the same time if both degree requirements are completed. The MPH degree will not be awarded prior to completion of the MD or DMD degree. If the requirements for the MD or DMD degree are completed before the MPH, then the MD or DMD is conferred and the MPH degree will be conferred once those requirements are completed.
