I witnessed or learned about concerning behavior

The Core Framework

Recognize. Respond. Connect.

SEE IT.

Recognize behavior that may warrant attention. You do not have to be certain whether an action violates policy before reaching out.

  • Sexual Harassment & Misconduct
  • Dating & Domestic Violence
  • Stalking & Unwanted Contact
  • Discrimination & Retaliation
  • Threatening or Intimidating Behavior

SAY IT.

Respond appropriately. Check in on a colleague, support someone who makes a disclosure, or ask a simple question.

  • "Are you okay?"
  • "Do you want to talk about what happened?"
  • "Do you want to talk about what happened?"

REPORT IT.

Get information to the team that can help. Making a report does not automatically trigger a formal investigation.

Supportive options available: Safety planning, academic or workplace adjustments, counseling referrals, mutual no-contact orders, and informal resolutions.

Guidance Based on Your Role & Situation

If Something Is Happening to You

You may be experiencing behavior that feels uncomfortable, unsafe, controlling, discriminatory, or threatening. You do not have to decide whether the behavior violates University policy before reaching out.

Talk with someone confidentially or non-confidentiality about your experience.

Request support such as academic accommodations or safety measures.

Explore options for reporting and formal or informal resolution.

Find Confidential Help

If Someone Discloses an Incident to You

When a student or colleague confides in you, your response sets the tone for their recovery and safety.

LISTEN Give them space to speak without interrogation or judgment.

SUPPORT Validate their feelings and avoid asking "why" questions.

CONNECT Share available resources and explain any mandatory reporting duties.

"Thank you for telling me. I want to make sure you know what support and resources are available, and I can help connect you."

For Students

Get confidential support, request protective measures, assist a friend, or report an incident safely. You can access help even if you choose not to participate in a formal complaint process.

For Faculty & Staff

Understand your responsibilities upon hearing a disclosure. Avoid conducting independent investigations, uphold privacy, and route information to ACERM/Title IX promptly.
